Current Issues and Thoughts
July 7, 2006

The next selectmen’s meeting is Monday, July 10, starting at 5:30pm. This is a regular meeting.

It looks like we may have the shortest agenda in modern times. The 9:30pm goal for finishing up may be attainable!

Here are some of the agenda items that may be of interest. There is a link (to the left) for the full agenda, which should be up on the town website prior to the meeting.

  1. We’ll discuss the revised proposal for new furniture for the police station. The Police facility committee will present. I put up a new blog post on this. In a nutshell, the new proposal (a) takes the furniture budget down to roughly $40,000; (b) allocates less of the budget to the three senior staff offices; (c) makes the spending self-financed out of police project funds; and (d) does all this with the conclusion that “we have not compromised functionality or quality”.

  2. We’ll discuss how the selectmen may be able to help MACC Base collect funds due from Lyndeborough for services provided.

  3. The Fire Department is presenting, again, its proposed user fees. The cover memo points out that the fee schedule was originally presented on April 7, and if the selectmen had acted on it and adopted it for May 1, the Fire Department would have collected an additional $2000+ in fee income for the general fund. It looks like we may be in for some self-criticism on this one….
